Raj, Peminder, Cathal and Paul with 3 votes each, but Raj and Peminder get in ahead of Paul and Cathal based on the number of games played in the current 6 month period (33, 30, 16 and 13 respectively).
Whites started with a man short with Dom finally showing up a few minutes late to an ovation, but managed to stave off a few early attacks from the Reds to keep the scoreline 0-0. Reds then made a few defensive mistakes and conceded four soft goals to drop 1-4 behind. Then Whites took their turn, allowing at least 2 shots from distance to go straight into goal. Raj then made an inspired change, putting himself as centre forward and the fortunes turned as Reds went on a 6 goal unanswered run, going 7-4 ahead. Last goal was called and Whites got a consolation to close it all out at 7-5.
I think the score ended 8-6 with Whites scoring the last goal. It was a classic tale of 2 halves with the Whites dominating the first half of the game. At the point when they raced to 4-1 lead, Reds were in such a disarray (notwithstanding that goals were defensive errors and easy goals) that I was beginning to think that this was gonna be one of those days, especially with Jake, Honda, Anthony and Dom having all sorts of opportunities in Reds defence.
But as Kien said, a tactical change where Raj first went from left back to center back and then to striker seemed to do the trick. Big gaps in defence opened up on the White side (perhaps due to an over-attacking fervor) which we capitalised on. Also, it seemed that with Raj up, White's defence seemed increasingly susceptible to long balls which Reds totally took advantage of and shot in the long looping shots and even long throws from goalie to the goalmouth of the Whites team. This weird tactic worked a gem and caused flurries in front of the White goal which we converted. The score would have been much higher had it not been for the many profligate misses by Reds in front of White goal
May I add that Rainer, Ben and Cathal put up a strong showing in the second half of the game to get reds back in it. With all that midfield running, there were many opportunities for Raj to score which to his credit did convert a few of the many.
The tatic paid off cause we created more spaces and with more passes resulted to goals . Agree I could have scored more but being a unselfish striker , I created more opportunity for my fellow teammates to try their luck .
How can one forget Damian's superb goal . Never underestimate the power of a normal man . He shines when one don't see his potential . I will always love to have Damian in my team anytime - hard working and never say die attitude .
Overall every one in the team played well and the victory is dedicated to all players . Another good week of Soccer . Don't think I can play on Sunday's for awhile now - CEO at home have declared Sunday as family day only unless she goes for shopping - all paid for day and that won't happen for awhile .
Cheers and may the force be with you .
