Line ups looked pretty evenly split even though there were some faint whispers prior to kick off that whites had a slight advantage over reds.
All of red players turned up on time for Reds Captain (and self proclaimed Fergie) to dispatch the formation and tactics. However the same could not be said of whites as they were missing Marcus who was 5 mins late. Derian also took the liberty to test out all available match balls to determine the one that deemed fit for the game.
The game kicked off with 6 whites v 7 reds and despite being a man down, whites seemed to be the more threatening of the 2 teams. Seems that one Jeff in midfield was the equivalent of Sean and Derian in terms of both size and possession.
The game was pretty even early on with both defences preventing any clear chances to either side. 15 mins later, Delon took down a long ball and laid off to an on-running reds player for the opening goal. One nil. Within minutes, whites responded with a deft toe poke from Daniel from midfield that cannoned into the bottom corner to level things back at 1 a piece. Game on. A trademark Willian-like cross-shot from Gow from right back took the reds keeper by surprise and it was 2-1 to reds. This was answered by a Matt Le Tissier like volley from Reds left back after a lovely setup from Delon upfront. 2 all.
Whites were hitting back several opportunities in the box but it was reds who took most of their chances with some heavy pressing in the midfield.
Reds 3-2 Whites : Sean with a neat dribble into the box and shot which took a deflection on the way in. Reds 4-2 Whites : Alex breaking down the flank and catching whites keeper out of position Reds 5-2 Whites : Delon tap in from a square pass from Derian from the right Reds 5-3 Whites : Jacko with a clinical sidefoot after a sloppy back pass by reds. Reds 6-3 Whites : Delon with another tap in, this time assisted by yours truly. Reds 7-3 Whites : Delon closing off the game and his hattrick from a pin point pass from Vish
Man of the match for me was Delon who made his presence felt upfront and contributed with 2 assists and a hat trick. In terms of fantasy football he would have earned a whopping 23pts on the night and 46pts if you played him as your captain. 2pts for full game played 3pts for each assist 4pts for each goal scored 3 bonus pts for MOM.
The score does not do justice to the quality of game played by both sides (I also think Marcus forgot to bring his shooting boots - he is usually a tank up in attack)
