From the schedule thread: .... Selectors are Nick and Fred. Line ups to follow. .... Line ups as posted by Nick on the WhatsApp group chat at 2 pm: $1 credit to each of Nick and Fred as selectors. After the game, please post reports and comments on the game below. From the "Keeping score & the competitive edge" thread: .... .... To spread the benefit around more, with effect from the game tomorrow (31 Aug 2019), I will split the $2 credit into $1 credits for the first two from each team to do a report. Priority for the following week's game will only be for the first from each team to provide a report, but I will consider extending it in the future to the second player from each team to do so. I would rather the rush be to provide reports for games (which benefits everyone, and the system) rather than to be the first to put one's name down for the following week's game (which only benefits the player concerned, at the expense of the system). ....

Tough one for the whites as Jye suffered from Hamstring in the first 5 mins and CH had a swollen toe in the 15th minute . Cheng Hong did well as a keeper for the reds . Nick scored twice . Desmond came close couple of times .
Reds won 2-0.

Babs contacted me after the game last Saturday to inform me that Fred left the game with a few minutes left over a disputed penalty, thus ending the game prematurely. He asked or suggested that I take action against Fred. I said if the incident was mentioned in a report (even without anyone being named), I would follow up with both captains, and any other players involved. The following are relevant:
- From the "Overriding Principles, Core Values & Game Rules" section:
.... - As we play without a referee, if a player involved in a passage of play calls a foul, unless the player committing the foul or his team captain concede the foul, continue the play until the ball goes out of play or is in the hands of a goalkeeper. .... At first instance, the matter should be left to the players involved in the passage of play. Other players not involved in the passage of play can express an opinion, but don’t press it. The final word is with the team selectors/captains. If the call is conceded, it resumes with the free kick or penalty as the case may be. Where there is a genuine dispute, and no agreement is reached, the following rules of thumb shall be applied to expedite matters:
- If the player on the receiving end of the tackle or challenge is physically hurt or suffers greater physical impact than is a normal incident of our games, it is presumed to be a foul, resulting in a free kick or penalty. It should not lightly be alleged that a player is feigning physical hurt. However, a player's past conduct is a relevant consideration. Therefore, my advice to all players is do not develop a reputation for simulation or feigning physical hurt. It will be held against you.
- If the player has committed an act that is in any event disallowed as set out above, this will weigh against him.
- All genuinely 50:50 calls should be decided in favour of the team trailing by 2 goals or more.
- In every other case, it is presumed not to be a foul, and the game continues from where play stopped.
- If necessary, the dispute can be resolved later, in the post-game discussions, or on the report thread for the game.
....
- From the "Overriding Principles, Core Values & Game Rules" section:
.... I rely on information provided to me. To this end: - Information from a team selector/captain relating to a particular player on that player's team carries the greatest weight.
- Information from the opposing team selector/captain carries significant weight.
Information from players who are not team selectors or captains will carry such weight as may be appropriate, taking into account how many games the player has played in the current 6 month period or current 3 year period, the number of players providing the same, similar or related information, and the manner in which the information is provided.
Possible sanctions include being excluded from the whole of, or aspects of, our games or system for a period or time, or indefinitely, or being required to post on the forum giving a commitment as to his future conduct.
....
- From "Guidelines On Team Organization and Game Play" section:
.... Flexibility and accommodation extends to making changes during the game. If one team is dominating the game and take a big lead in the first half of the game which appears unassailable, or one team is a player short due to uneven numbers, a no show, a late withdrawal, an injury to a player, a player having to leave early, or a temperamental player walking out of the game, or a team is significantly weakened by an injured player who continues to play in a limited capacity, team selectors/captains need to consider what changes to line ups and formations are necessary to keep the game competitive. The onus is greater when the scoreline is or approaches one that is grossly one-sided, as defined in the Appendix below. Where the team taking a big lead is largely a group of friends who don't want to be separated, one other player from that team switching over so that the other team has two players extra remains an option, as discussed in the section above. During a game, the two team selectors/captains also have the final say on the application of the Playing Rules & Principles. If the team selectors/captains cannot agree, the issue should be discussed on the report thread after the game, and may be followed up on the appropriate announcements and developments thread. Any residual dissatisfaction after the game can also be discussed on the report thread for the game. ....
Fred was one of the two selectors with 5 votes. Each game is very much in the hands of the selectors/captains. From the "Team selectors/captains & line ups" thread: .... I rely on captains to take charge of the games, and to keep me informed of material issues and developments in the game, including relevant information on particular players. In principle, a selector can appoint another player on his team as captain, but this has not happened before (except in the case of the non-playing selector). The other players in a game vote for the 2 selectors, so the selectors also represent the players in the game. As I told Babs, even if Fred has walked off before, or he was otherwise at fault on this occasion, the only "sanctions" I would consider are one or more of the following: - Depriving him of the additional $1 credit as captain.
- Depriving him of priority as selector for the following week's game.
- Excluding him from all selector/captain polls for a period of time.
As I heard nothing further, in particular, neither on this report thread, or from the other captain (Nick), I am treating this matter as closed.
From above:
Tough one for the whites as Jye suffered from Hamstring in the first 5 mins and CH had a swollen toe in the 15th minute . ..... If Whites had two players injured, I'm surprised that one of them wasn't swapped. In the circumstances, Whites did very well.
$1 credit to Raj for a first report for Whites. Additional $1 credit to each of Fred and Nick as captains.
