yes to echo Ian's point - and the whites were hungrier and had more players who didnt care about anything else apart from winning the game - aka Reza who didnt care - and just had to score - Sivan had just returned from his stint of injury and hiatus of a year and he was slowing trying to get into the game but poor Sivan, we didnt offer him enough protection from ruthless unforgiving mercenaries - truth be told, the team was slightly lopsided, but it was still a good run out even though Sivaraj lost his cool at a few of us from wayward shots - and Raphy was strangely subdued and off target quite a number of times and I hollered at the team on countless occasions for not marking up - the marking was really awful - it was non existent -
all in all still a fun game and I would do it again but maybe with a more balanced team to have more fun and to counter hungrier individuals who didnt care for anything except to win - nothing else mattered.
See you lot next week. thanks for the workout and nutmegs.....

Reds were unlucky to lose but when Chen Hong Timmy and myself formed an understanding at the back the defense was impenetrable. Raj had a very close attempt but that was as far as they got as the whites were rampant with some slick moves between Nick Jan n Adrian. They were too hot too handle. At the end of the day the better defense won as both attacks were deadly n much vaunted!
The Reds couldn't handle Des upfront as he was such a nuisance infront of goal!

Apologies to Paul for the last tackle. I went for the ball as Paul was going to kick it and his foot probably made contact with my foot or ball I m not too sure. Hope you get well soon. I m a physical n hard player but not dirty n definitely not out to hurt anyone.
We managed to mount a serious challenge also in 2nd half because we changed tactics n played with Naz up top when previously we had no striker.
The Whites had too much firepower on us and our own wingers were too conservative with their runs but tried their best so couldn't be faulted for effort.

Rajiv, it feels good to be back and to be part of this fantastic forum. I met up with Teik on Sunday for another game and he was similarly impressed and sharing your efforts with everyone at that sunday's game.
Similarly, from my experience on Saturday, I know what it is like to be at the receiving end from a single individual but last I recall, I always encouraged as well as chastised. I thought it was more balanced but of course, you guys can tell me differently from how you saw it!! LOL
Anyway maybe the years in HK has caused me to mellow alot - and see things from a wholistic perspective. I dont know - I need to play more and familarise myself with everyone's style of play. If my body and schedule could handle it I would even play alternate weekdays!

Thanks Rajiv - appreciated the clarity. I felt "victimised" on Saturday although to be fair, that has not happened to me very often when I was playing in SG prior to leaving for HK in 2008 and any of the old boys reading this would be laughing - Dennis being victimised?!! dont kid with me -
Strangely enough I had played a couple of times with Jye before but never caught his name and never had problems with him nor found him to be a bullying authoritarian individual. Skilful or nimble he may not be but gosh! he sure has chip on his shoulder on Sat!
Perhaps age catches with us all and he was annoyed we were being pulled all over the place and so had to pick out a fall guy - that being me, maybe because I was a "noob".... ;p
I was just terribly annoyed that he was singling me out because i guess most of everyone else was familiar with each other and apart from Fred and Dev, I didnt really know anyone else in the team. I was really getting used to the team's playing style.
I mean I have my own style so does everyone else so its about being tolerant and trying to encourage people and working as a team, not inculcating a blame culture and singling out anyone.
Seriously, from the way I read it, we were playing 3-3-1.
Dev RB, Chen Hong - CB, Xiongwei,-LB and Jye was in goal, I was in CM, Au bros on both wings and Fred up top. I thought it looked like a decent line up although I was unfamiliar with everyone's strengths (except Fred).
it started that way for a bit and then I realised one of the Au bros was not comfy on the wing and kept cutting in (ala Di Maria) so I thought perhaps I should go out on the wing then and let him play in the middle.
That was when the problem started when Jye kepting accusing me of not running back. I mean seriously, only Nick was up top as their striker and you have Xiongwei and Chen Hong double teaming on him, someone has to support Fred too as he was getting marked out. if we have numbers back, then surely you need some others to stay in midfield but I guess its a different approach. At one stage during a corner we had 5 men marking Nick - (Nick, you should feel flattered, the whites were terrified of you!)
I dont blame Fred for his performance on Sat, because he was being double teamed and triple teamed at times and no one was helping him much. We all know how steady Rajseran is on the ball and he was a rock in defence for Reds plus Yaseen holding ground and one of the Au bros was getting no change from them both. Dev was doing his darnest tearing up and down the right. Then I was ordered into goal by Jye (not asked but ordered), which I declined because of my elbow (torn ligaments from 2 weeks ago - still mending). I think it was because of that I was being targeted. Why? Reasons later.
Then I was constantly hounded throughout the game by the same individual who wasnt the captain but ordering everyone else into different places. I offered to play CB as it was one of my positions of strength but suddenly I was told to switch to RB, and Dev play left wing. It was just a game that I was seen to be at fault for everything even when I tackled hard and protected backline sometimes. I mean as a team player if you wanted to fault someone, at least encourage them at same time but no, only harsh words were offered when mistake was made but at the same time, this individual who wasnt even the captain was just faultless and never to blame for anything. I kept it down on the pitch rest of the game and just played the game after realising that Jye was unmoved to his own failures.
I bided my time and offered my views after the game. First word I said was? since when Singapore transcended into a blame culture? seriously buddy...if you were that good yourself or even the captain, I would have accepted your criticism but you were slow yourself, made mistakes and when others in your team made it, I dont see you tearing into them but you were just constantly on my case! wow! i was then told to FO because the game was over, so forget about it. I dont think so not this time matey. I had let it slide on the pitch for fear of spoiling everyone's game but let's be fair, after the game, let's have it out then.
For fear of someone else or a "newbie" being the next victim! I trust I am free to voice my own opinions after the game about such bullying behaviour and it should be good to remember when someone keeps quiet, it doesnt mean he is afraid, it just means he is trying to do you a favour and not embarrass you and let his performance do the talking.
Furthermore, Jye claimed that Quote "we dont like people to come here and pretend this injury or that injury and dont want to go into goal" "next time come back after you have fully recovered." Unquote.
Besides being the captain, I didnt know he made the rules as well. Anyone who knows me, know that I am a pretty decent keeper during my time in SG last, so if I could go into goal I definitely would.
For the game's sake, in future, if you are not the skipper, you should not pretend you are one. No one voted you on tactics or rule maker. You dont order people into goal or into any position. be respectful and polite if you want to propose positions. CH had suggested I play CM, I was very comfy there until I saw one of the Au bros preferring that position so I switched it out. I was trying my best to help the team. yes the better team won for a host of reasons but we all want to have a good game of football win or lose as a team.
You paid $10 or $12, so did I so unless you are the captain, what right did you have to tear into me during the game and tell me I was playing rubbish and the one to blame for everything you failed to do to stop the goals.
Seriously buddy, please grow up and be more respectful to others next time. We are just here to play football. Yes I may not be your friend but at least for that one hour, I am your team mate. So be more respectful and tolerant to others next time. Thanks.
- Dennis the destroyer - who was destroyed by a fellow Sgean on Saturday - I thought HK people were terrible.....sigh!
