guys,
It's been a fantastic time playing with all of you. we had good games, ups & downs, great goals, excellent workouts, and good camaraderie. thanks Rajiv for running this forum. even if we had our share of discussions and arguments, I think you are doing a great job.
unfortunately, the nightmare of every footballer has become reality for me. I injured myself in last sunday's game badly. it was a freaky landing with no contact with any other player. just a bad luck incident as my knee is 'gone' (ACL) now. it would take me a year to come back so I have decided to call it a day on the pitch. not writing this to get you guy's empathy but rather to tell you why you won't see me on my home-pitch at turf city any more.
fare well,
Rainer

Rainer
Sorry to hear about the injury. I hope you're currently not in pain and the healing process has begun. I am not trying to be funny but I really hope you change your mind and I get to play with you again. You're truly one of the gentlemen footballers of the weekend games and one of the reasons why we have so much fun and continue to play week in week out. Have a good rest and take care of yourself buddy. Maybe we'll see each other soon.
Cheers Des

Sorry to hear about your injury Rainer.
A year is a long time, and you're one of the "younger" players. Players, even older players, have made a come back after several years away. Even if you stick with the decision, the forum is still here.

Rest well Rainer. What would you do in a year's time when the knee is healed? Push trolleys down supermarket aisles (like what Alex Ferguson did during his temporary retirement)? Go jogging? Boring. Your feet will be itching again.

Hey Rainer,
Take good care - I did my ACL 3 years back and am back and running. Drop me a buzz if you need referrals or some advise on nursing the knee back to shape. I can give you doc recommendations as well.
In the meantime, you can sign up for our GIFFA Fantasy League which I've set up after some persuasion from Cedric.
Hope to see you back soon.

Very sorry to hear this mate, agree with the general consensus above that you are more than capable of coming back from this just as other Giffa players have, more recently Jess who I feel has actually come back better and stronger than before!
You will definitely be missed in the interim so do come down and join the lads for after game Beers, we will take turns pushing your wheelchair lol!

albeit only playing a few games together in the same team or in the opposing team, I did enjoy your presence when I see your name on the sheet. I do hope you make a successful recovery and like others I do hope you come back - stronger !!! In the meantime, focus on recovery and get well soon.
cheers.
